Bearcat Cross Country faces off against SLO Lions

Bearcat+Cross+Country+faces+off+against+SLO+Lions

At the fourth of the six meets in their season, the Bearcats lost against the San Luis Obisbo Lions. It was their second time running on their home course after both the men and women cross country teams defeated the Nipomo Titans the week prior on March 6. Moreover, on March 13th the women finished with a score of 33 to the Lion’s 24, with Bearcat racers coming in 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th, 13th. The men ended with a score of 43 to the Lion’s 18, with Bearcat racers coming in 3rd, 7th, 10th, 11th, and 12th.

Junior Charlotte Castelli ran with the top two Lion runners for the majority of the meet and came in second overall. In the 2.5 mile SLO meet on February 20, Castelli came in second thirty one seconds behind first-place finisher and Lion, Grace Rubio. However, for this meet (which was 3.1 miles), she closed the gap between them to a mere seven seconds with her time of 18:51.

Jason Scruggs was the Bearcats’ top runner with his time of 16:11 and his third-place finish. Runners Cameron LeClair (11), Diego Ortega (10), Manuel Cruz (11), and Ethan Poggi (12) followed behind him with places and times of 7th and 16:55, 10th and 17:58, 11th and 18:08, and 12th and 18:12, respectively.

Though the Bearcats were not able to pull a victory out and get revenge for their early-season loss against the Lions on February 20, they will run against the Arroyo Grande Eagles on March 20th at AG High School.
