The Bearcats brought Nipomo High School cross country runners to their den on Saturday March 6, 2021 and defeated the Titans in both the women and men’s races. In this 3.1 mile course, the cross country runners trekked around the track, up to the softball and baseball fields, through the student parking lot, and back to the track. The runners did this route twice, ran 300 meters, around the softball field, and to the finish line which was about 100 meters away and where they started their race.

Junior Charlotte Castelli and sophomore Sydney Moore were the top two placers for the bearcats. Castelli won first with her time of 19:15.2 while Moore finished with a time of 20:20.7. After a Titan came in third, senior Jaiden Anguiano, senior Madi Loff, and junior Sophia Berry were the fourth, fifth, and sixth place finishers, respectively. With a team score of 18, the Bearcats slaughtered their competitors who ended with 41 points in comparison.

For the men, the Bearcats had a closer race, but that made their victory so much sweeter. Senior Jason Scruggs led for the most of the race and secured first place with his time of 16:34.5. for Paso. Going into the last section of the race around the track, softball, field and back to the starting line, Cameron LeClair passed two Nipomo runners and went from fourth to third to second place. The junior finished with a time of 17:05.4 and it is through the efforts of the entire team that the Bearcats were able to win their home meet. The combination of Scuggs’ first place, LeClaire’s second, Diego Ortega‘s sixth place, Joseph Martinez‘s eighth place, and Manuel Cruz‘s ninth, meant that the Bearcats earned 26 points to the Titans’ 30.
