Senior Annie Meeder ran a record breaking mile time of 4:59.46 during the annually held West Coast Relays, dropping three seconds below the previous record of 5:02.09 set by Ashley Davis ’16. Placing second in her event, Meeder became the first female Bearcat to break the five minute barrier.
“I was super humbled because there have been a lot of super good distance runners that have come through Paso Robles High School in the past few years, so I’ve always had girls to look up to. It’s just weird to know that I’m in [that position] now. It was just exciting to be able to break free,” Meeder said.
The meet has been held each year at Buchanan High School in Clovis, CA since 1927, and it consists of three levels of competition including an invitational, seeded, and open level for each event.
