A close game was determined by one point, the JV Boys Basketball team lost against the McLane Highlanders with a score of 39 – 40 on Dec. 13, 2023.
The JV Boys are at a loss streak of 0 – 4 in counting this game, as their preceding game on Dec. 1, 2023 also resulted in a disappointing loss of 30 – 59 against Santa Ynez.
Center Christian Serna (10) felt the McLane game was promising but inconsistent. “I feel that it went pretty well overall, but we should’ve played with the same energy we had at the end all game long.”
This game leads PRHS onto the next to be able to break their losing streak. As the pre-season games haven’t yet ended, there is still a chance to win their next game against Cabrillo High School.
The JV Boys had no problem getting the ball back on their side of the court, but at halftime the score was set at 13 – 18. The top scorer of the night was small forward Bryce Young (10) who bucketed 16 points – which led the team into a game that just barely slipped through their fingers. He was representing not only PRHS, but coach Kelley Bellew and assistant coach Earl Clark as well.
During the final seconds of the game, people rose from their seats as what seems to be the final shot from Young gets made. Afterwards, the Highlanders immediately put themselves into a tie against PRHS. Fresno received a personal foul which resulted in 2 free throws that determined the fate of the game. PRHS supporters stomped their feet against the bleachers as the Highlander made his final shot and unfortunately Fresno was able to walk out with a win.
There have been no ties within the JV Boys basketball season which had almost been broken, if it weren’t for McLane’s last shot that had been made, it would’ve saved the boys from another unfortunate loss.
The next home game for the JV Bearcats will take place on Tuesday, January 9, 2023 at 5:00pm.
