Dec. 3 and Dec. 4 the varsity boys soccer team spent their weekend playing four games against local teams.
SCORES
- Carrillo: Forfeit 1 – 0 Win
- Dos Pueblos: 3 – 0 Win
- Atascadero 1 – 0 (semifinal)
- Santa Maria: 2 – 0 (final)
Due to their wins at the beginning of the tournament, the team won 2nd place in the tournament overall.
This tournament signified something special for the team as it was the first time in 5 years since they had gotten into the final.
The team was in high spirits after the goal from Yohani Mares, who scored a goal from the halfway line during the Atascadero game.
The tournament sadly ended with a loss for the team in 2 – 0 from Santa Maria. With so many people injured the energy was low.
“The games this weekend allowed us to learn a lot about us as a team since we were down three starters. However, I think it helped us come together as a team and fight tough games even though a lot of us weren’t 100% fit,” Evan Swettenam said.
Assessing the game later on, one of the three team captains, Adan Sandoval, said that the team “Came up just short of our goal [for winning the tournament] ” (Sandoval).
