Women’s Basketball: 5th Win of the season against Kingcity Mustangs

Bearcats beat the Mustangs 53-34, December 15, 2023

In their seventh game of the season on December 15, 2023 the Varsity Women’s basketball team took on the Kingcity Mustangs for a fifth win, 53-34. The Bearcats took the lead in the beginning of the game as Coach Mark Martinez’s voice rang through Gil Asa gym.

This season the girls are currently at a 4-2 record, with losses to Arroyo Grande and Ridgeview.

The game started off with the line up of senior Riley Milder, senior Madi Hall, sophomore Genesis Gavilanes, freshman Tori Holbrook, and senior PHOTOGRAPHER: Chloe Van Pelt. With the first point being scored by the only freshman, Holbrook, kicked off a solid win for Paso.

Kingcity’s first point was scored in the first quarter, bringing the score to 10-2 in favor of the Bearcats. Milder scored the first 3 pointer of the game, lengthening the lead. Holbrook created a defensive wall while Gavilanes was quick on her feet and Dyer scored following Milder’s basket. The buzzer sounded as the Mustangs scored, completing the first quarter.

At the beginning of the second quarter a free throw was made for the Bearcats, adding another point to the scoreboard. Two points were smoothly scored by senior Samantha Kee. The Bearcats lead 22- 09 with 3 minutes left in the first half. Kingcity, rushed in and shot a three pointer, ending 33-20.

The pace continued to pick up as the Mustangs and Cats raced up and down the court keeping Paso ahead 39-28 after the third quarter.
Hall made a three-pointer in the fourth quarter and pushed the Bearcats into an even greater lead, 44-28. A victory for 2023 Ocean League Champions, Paso wins 53-34, with the next home game being December 23, 2023 at Gil Asa gym.
