During Aug. 8, 2023 a fire in Maui arose due to downed electrical power lines resulting in a huge 2,170 acre destruction.  The fatal fire  destroyed 90% of Lahaina land ,causing many people to lose loved ones, homes, and their precious homeland . From their homes, loved ones and livelihood only ashes and sorrows remained. Not many have survived the intoxicating smoke or the second degree burn, and many people had run to the water to survive.

Bearcats took action to donate. Bearcats donated $1 or more with the help of Jennifer Bedrosian and Jennfier Martinez, who got the idea from Cesar Barajas .Several hundred students raised over $1200 for the lahiana school by buying red, blue and white leis for a dollar at PRHS and a home football game. This was an opportunity to help people in need and being there when one is needed. Bedrosian was delighted that the help of Bearcats just donating a dollar could make a difference.

” So this is a chance to say, Oh, I did something good. I’m supporting students who weren’t able to go to their first day of school or get to be with their teammates or have their favorite teachers. This is an opportunity for them to say I did do something.”

    — Jennifer Bedrosian
