The World Cup is an event that garners many viewers across the world including teachers and students from PRHS

Cinthia Murillo is a center defensive mid player and is an avid soccer player. Though she says she isn’t the best, Murillo shares that they love the sport for the expression of emotions and lessons she’s learned.

‘I like soccer because I get to express myself…[and] I learned discipline most,” – Cinthia Murillo 

She started playing at the age of12 where she started practicing with a couple of boys from a team in Barney Shwartz. She practiced with them for two years until she got the opportunity to play for an academy team in Santa Maria. She’s played soccer for all her four years of high school (Freshman and Sophomore Year – JV, Junior and Senior – Varsity). Her favorite Highlight was when Ray Charleson scored against Serbia with his bicycle kick. 

“[I remember when] Tacey and I would wake up at 4:45 am to go to the high school for practice at 5.” – Murillo

– The first official World Cup was played in Uruguay 1930, and since when the tournament has been held every fourth year
