Sophomore and JV striker Drake Wilson secures his place in Paso Robles High School history as he finishes the season with 23 scored goals

, breaking the previous Junior Varsity record of 17 goals.
Wilson broke the original school record of 17 during the first league game against Santa Maria on Tuesday, Jan 27, 2026. The Paso Robles JV boys soccer team won their match by a score of 5-1 with Wilson scoring two of the five points.
“I was 16, then I scored two goals in our first league game.” Wilson commented. Then putting the new record at 18 goals.
Head Coach Taylor Bivin informed him that he was approaching the season record before the game had started, making Wilson wanting to surpass it. While the coach was unsure on how the varsity record compares he knew that 17 goals was the number to beat for JV.
This became a personal milestone for Wilson, proving to team mates, his coach, and varsity coaches how determined and dedicated he is to soccer.
Wilson has been playing soccer for eleven years now. He first started on a recreational league and knew that soccer was his sport from there. “After that I think I fell in love with soccer, “said Wilson.
As a striker being the forward position primarily responsible for striking, Wilson emphasized his success is the result of not only his effort but his teams as well. “I couldn’t have done it without my team, they pass it to me.”
Wilson trains constantly practicing with his teammates 10 hours a week with an additional 2 on his own during weekends. Despite missing one game due to a red card that he received in a prior match, Wilson managed to maintain his scoring pace and extend the record to 23 goals before the end of the season.
“If I could take it to the collegiate level, I would. But if not, I would just do it for fun either way” Wilson admitted showing his true passion for the sport.
For the time being, Wilson closes the 2026 season as the new Junior Varsity record holder for most goals scored in one season. Establishing a benchmark that future players might aim to surpass and a proven passion for future teams and coaches on just what this Sophomore can do.
