As Bearcats packed the Gil Asa Gym during sixth period, 9 senior wrestlers prepared for their final home meet against the Righetti Warriors on Jan. 22. School spirit filled the gym as the lights dimmed and a single spotlight illuminated the mat. The National Anthem was then introduced, performed by Forte (Adv. Choir) President and senior Lilliana Line.

After her performance, Bearcat and Warrior wrestlers were introduced, shaking hands with their weight-class opponent. Captains from both teams then stepped in and reviewed rules and expectations with the referee.
Paso Robles opened the meet 12-0, getting two early forfeits from the Warriors. Freshman Anthony Maldonado and junior Gabe Morones set a strong defense, holding off Righetti as the score stayed close at 12-9.
Senior Logan Cammack lit up the mat with a first-period pin with 35 seconds, followed by senior Drake Mello, who also scored a first-period fall in just 38 seconds. Junior Christian Hernandez battled through a tough start and a nosebleed to lock in a third-period takedown for 3 points.
Junior Saul Coronado and senior Josh Willis added three points each, while senior Pedro Coronado delivered another dominant pin. Paso extended its lead to 41-14 before Righetti’s Jonathan Hurd scored 6 points. Senior Caleb Konoski-Melendez earned 4, and freshman Tyson Ahumada finished with a third-period fall at 4:53. Righetti’s Tyler Hall closed with a 6-point effort, but Paso Robles cruised to a 51-20 team win.

“My favorite part of the season was getting better. I would describe my team as future world champions. Being undefeated feels great,” Konoski-Melendez said after the Bearcat Victory.
After Women’s and JV Men’s Wrestling played, a ceremony was held for the graduating wrestlers. Ending the afternoon with a dominant win against Righetti, Varsity Men’s Wrestling will be participating in the 2026 Sam Boyd California Invitational Tournament (CIT) on Jan. 23–24, in Morro Bay.
