The Eiffel Tower, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Pyramids, are all amazing monuments from around the world that people come together to see. Everyone from around the world comes to marvel at these fascinating sights that have even more fascinating backstories. Some bearcats have even gone to see monuments such as these over their summer vacations.
Bearcats traveling over summer went all over the world, including Finn Railsback who went to Cancun Mexico, “I went with my eighth grade Spanish class … We stayed at a resort and it’s in the Chichen Itza area. And we near the, I think its the Mayan temples. And we got to see the big, popular temple. We went to a we went to a big city and we use a park and yeah we stayed at the resort most of the time.” he also said. He noticed how many more local shops there were in comparison to commercial ones, and how even though Cancun is a popular city, it wasn’t very busy at all. “Well, one thing I noticed is that there’s a lot more local shops than big like commercial shops, you know, and especially for being such a popular City, it was. It wasn’t very busy at all, and it was the weather was really hot and humid, but it was definitely hot. … overall it was really nice.” Railsback is one of those people that went to one of the places that everyone goes to be brought together.
Traveling around the world has increased in the last few years. For example from 2023-2024 the amount of people traveling out of the United States (US) has increased by 9.2% according to trade.gov. However, the travel rate now is decreasing because of the fear of traveling out of the US for reasons such as –declining trust in airline safety and people being detained when they travel back to the US after a vacation, according to bbc.com 2025 travel issue about the US. Many people have been saying that they are too frightened to go back to the US after traveling abroad. A US marketing professional named Mary S. was one of these people. She had a trip planned to go out of the US to get away from the heat, but decided against it saying, “There’s no way I’m going anywhere near an airport or border crossing,” this shows that Americans are getting frightened, more and more by the second of traveling out of the country. Experts and officials such as Tricia McLaughlin, says that, “Lawful permanent residents who are worried they will not be allowed to re-enter the United States based on changing immigration enforcement are just cancelling trips … They have decided it is safer to vacation in the United States and avoid the potential risks associated with leaving the country and attempting to re-enter” McLaughlin is one of the many showing that there are many US citizens too afraid to travel due to President Trump and the new laws around detainments and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, (I.C.E.)–according to BBC.com 2025 travel issue about the U.S.
There are many people scared to travel out of the US and there are others who are not. Either way, some of our bearcats have some advice for you. Railsback says you should, “realize beforehand that it really isn’t going to be that different. It’s everyone’s still a human and, yeah,”
