AUTHORITARIANISM AND IMMORTALITY

In the wake of the Russo-Ukraine war, the Russian Federation has continually sought trading partners amid international backlash and sanctions on the federation. Many organizations have altogether stopped trade, but some have continued to partake in business in Russia. Whether it be a company or nation, somewhere profit is to be made. The People’s Republic of China has recently hosted a conference between nations including Russia, China, Mongolia, India, and Pakistan on Sept. 2, 2025. The most notable of them being Russia and China, where Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin had a historical meeting and came together in arms, where Putin addressed Jinping as a “dear friend.” They have continually increased their relations since the outbreak of the Russo-Ukraine war and China’s aggression towards Taiwan. China has agreed to allow a 30-day visa-free access to Russian travelers in the coming months, while Russia has been allowed to build another oil pipeline into China (AP News).

The following day, on Sept 3. 2025, China held its 80th anniversary China Victory Day Parade. The parade celebrates Chinese victory over Imperial Japan in the Second World War, and over 12,000 Chinese soldiers were present, according to internationalaffairs.org. Both Putin and Jinping attended the parade and had a surprising conversation about immortality. A hot mic picked up their discussion and overheard them using translators to speak of organ transplants and how it may be possible to neglect the aging process.
