We all know art as paintings or sculptures, but what if it was living? Paso Robles High School offers floral design classes that are taught by Theresa Clark in room 1132, with 163 students enrolled this year alone. This use of flowers in design shows nature’s beauty, another reason we should protect it.

Clark says that an important part of floral designs is that color is a key factor in displaying a certain feeling,
“Red is obviously passion, love, same with pink. Yellow is more of a friendship color. Red is also associated with warmth,” Clark said. This phenomenon is called color psychology, “When it comes to communication, color is unbeatable. Unconscious or otherwise, color can evoke emotions, inspire reactions, and change modes of thinking” (colorpsychology.org).
Another important part of a floral design is the context, or what the arrangement is going to be used for.
When we get commissioned to do a design for somebody, we always ask what it’s for. And so depending on the purpose of the actual design is going to depend on, you know, what flowers we use, what colors we use, and all of those things come with meanings
This creates a generality necessary for bigger pieces. Such as composing lots of small pieces to be put around an event they should be similar to create a greater sense of unity.
Floral design, much like more traditional art, is composed of many different elements that come together to create a final product. To go from art of flowers to flowers that are art. It makes you wonder, where will art take us next?
