The Nun rocks the theaters on its opening weekend

2018’s new jump-out-of-your-seats horror film is here. The Nun, directed by Corin Hardy and produced by horror movie genius James Wan, hit theaters hard after its release on Sept 7. With a gross revenue over the opening weekend of $54.5 million, The Nun made everyone look over their shoulders twice as this chilling prequel made the biggest debut out of ‘The Conjuring’ series.

Set in Romania in 1952, a young Sister Irene (played by Taissa Farmiga) and Father Burke (played by Demian Bichir) travel to a remote covenant to investigate the recent suicide of a nun. As they stay in the covenant, they discover its sinister history and unveil the malevolent spirit that may be the cause of all the misfortune that has recently occured.

The Nun makes important connections between ‘The Conjuring 2’ and its main characters Ed and Lorraine Warren. It is a popular fan theory that Sister Irene (played by Taissa Farmiga) is actually a young Lorraine Warren (played by Farmiga’s older sister Vera Farmiga), even though the movie does not directly say it. Many people agree with this concept, including myself.

With a running time of an hour and 36 minutes, its use of traditional scary things such as an old castle that looks like something Dracula would have lived in, being in the middle of nowhere, and the general idea of a demon dressed as a nun, this movie is a horror movie fanatics dream.

I would highly recommend The Nun if you’re looking for a non-stop intense thriller that’ll leave you scared to walk down dark hallways at night. The jump-scares and somewhat cheesy comedy offers a fun but terrifying experience anyone of all ages and it’ll leave you itching to go back and rewatch the entire Conjuring franchise.
