Hector Tobar Comes to Paso Robles

Hector Tobar Comes to Paso Robles

Nine students will be attending a Q&A with the author of Cuesta College’s Book of the Year, “The Barbarian Nurseries.” They read the book, had a discussion group meeting, and now they get to meet the author, Hector Tobar and have their books autographed.

Tobar is an author and journalist and is the author of four books including the critically acclaimed New York Times bestseller “Deep Down Dark:The Untold Stories of 33 Men Buried in a Chilean Mine and the Miracle That Set Them Free” and the movie “33” was based on his novel. Tobar also contributed to the LA Times Pulitzer Prize winning coverage of the LA riots of 1992.

Freshman Alma DeLaFuente participated in the discussion with Counselor Xelina Rojas. She said that reading the novel helped her ¨get to view the opinions of others and what they learned from the book.” She said she is looking forward to the field trip Mar. 15, 2016.

Fifty students will be attending the Educate Conference: Si Se Puede at Cuesta College in SLO on Friday, March 18. This is a motivational high school conference for Latino/Latina students. There are workshops regarding college majors, financial aid, and more.
