The swim team finishes strong a CIF
The swim team finished strong at CIF prelims, improving times from previous years. Bearcats raced in the CIF Southern Section Division 2 prelims and finals at the Riverside aquatic center on May 12 through the 13. Swimmers raced against 78 teams and more than 600 athletes during the meet.
Freshmen Audrey Hughes competed in the 50 Freestyle placing 21st overall, and the 500 Freestyle, placing 27th. Hughes was joined by Sophomore Mackenzie Raymond, Senior Cecelia Ramirez, and Senior Shannen Dodds on the 4 x 50, placing 29th, and 31st in the 4 x 100 Free Relay.
Junior Gavin Hughes placed 29th in the 200 Freestyle and 35th in the 500 Freestyle, representing the boys.
Sophomore Cori Southward finished 18th in the 1 meter springboard event for diving, the only member of the team to qualify for CIF prelims.
“This Bearcat team is extremely young and has shown marked improvements throughout the season. I am so proud of all the accomplishments by the team this year, across the board, at all levels we had an amazing season. The years ahead look to be very promising for Bearcat aquatics!” said Coach Jen Brown.
