On Jan. 28, the varsity Women’s soccer team faced up against the Arroyo Grande Eagles on Parish Field for their seventh league game. After an immense amount of effort given by both teams, the Bearcats ultimately ended up losing with a 1-2 score.
The first time the Bearcats played the Eagles in preseason, they were both participating in the Cats and Hound Tournament. The Bearcats came out on top and won 3-2, after senior captain Christa Kelly and sophomore Lila Colegrove were able to put goals in the back of the net.

The second time they played each other, for their second league game, the Eagles ended up winning 2-0.
Since both teams knew they had the chance to beat the other, Arroyo Grande and Paso went into the match with high intensity. Kelly believes that they were most successful with their possession throughout the game.
“I feel like we were possessing good in the midfield, but we just need to communicate more overall to make sure we’re on the same page,” Kelly said.
Even with low 40 degree weather, the heat of the game was high. It was a very aggressive matchup, with both teams wanting to beat the other since it would be the last time they would face each other this season.
The Eagles started the scoring of the game after putting two goals in the net during the first half.
The Bearcats kept their spirits high, and they continued to battle and fight hard for the ball. Their attempts gave way, as Colegrove scored nearing the end of the second half.
Though they kept having good opportunities and made good plays towards the end of the game, the Bearcats weren’t able to tie up the game and ended with a score of 1-2.
Though they lost, goalkeeper, Sunset Makarow, made approximately 12 great saves to keep the Eagles’ goal amount low.

Makarow currently has a goal saving record of 1.6 GAA (goals against average) and has made 95 saves in total this season, helping the goals against Paso to be lower.
The Lady Bearcats play their next game home on Jan. 31, at Parish Field against the San Luis Obispo Tigers.
“I feel motivated to win as a team against SLO when we play them to get back the unfortunate loss we took against them last time,” Kelly said.
