The JV boys soccer team defeated Arroyo Grande HS on Tuesday January 16, ending with a score of 4 – 1. The chilly atmosphere was not host to many spectators but nonetheless, an impressive game was played.
Early in the first half, AGHS scored, but were immediately struck back with a powerful goal scored by freshman middle forward Manuel Meza (#6). The rest of the half was filled with encouraging teamwork by the Bearcats, as well as skilled saves from keepers: junior Iker Sarricolea (#0) and sophomore Manuel Nevarez (#1), ending 1 – 1.
“I thought this was our best game we’ve played so far this season. We worked the ball really well,” Freshman forward Joaquin Perez (#19), said.
Meza’s second goal in the second half exemplified the partnership on this team, earning him respect from his teammates.
“Manny was I think the MVP of that game. He definitely moved the ball pretty well,” Perez said.
The game continued strong with freshman middle forward Pedro Sandoval (#14), scoring from the 35 yard line and ended with an epic
goal from Perez, cementing the Bearcats win against the Eagles, 4 – 1.
This victory sets the JV boys 1 – 2 in Mountain league and 8 – 4 – 1 overall, keeping their record positive. Their next home game is Tuesday January 23 against Santa Maria.
