The JV girls soccer team hit the field on January 7th after completing their first day of the semester back from winter break. They fought a hard match against St. Joseph but sadly walked out with a score of 1-5.
The St. Joseph game marks the first game of the League season for all the women’s soccer teams. In the JV team’s preseason scrimmages before winter break, they traveled to Soledad and hosted against Templeton, losing both games. The girls also attended a valley tournament in Fresno, earning the third-place title.
Starting with the ball, the girls’ quick feet held possession and made their way up the field offensively. Within the first 10 minutes of the first half, freshman Jordan Van Pelt scored a goal with an assist by freshman Alia Reyes. The ladies shot 12 shots on goal throughout the entirety of the game with corner kicks made by freshmen Cayla Zavala and Jenny Corona.
Although the ladies took their first loss of the official season, more games are to come from them with more goals awaiting. The next home game will be held at War Memorial Stadium against the San Luis Obispo Tigers on January 14th.
