As a debut to their 2025 league season, the varsity soccer Lady Bearcats faced off the St. Joseph Knights at home on Parish field.
It was set up to be a well-matched and balanced game since the Knights, with a 6-3 record, ranked 10 in Central Section and the Bearcats, with a 5-2-2 record, two spots higher at 8.
Despite the cold weather and brisk wind, both teams came ready to play and began the game in an aggressive manner. Many calls of fouls during the beginning of the game showed the intensity and the drive of both teams. Unfortunately, the Knights got the scoreboard going by finishing two opportunities in the first half, leaving the score at 0-2 by halftime.
The battle between the teams continued at the start of the second half, and the Bearcats finally put a point on the scoreboard after a goal from sophomore Lila Colegrove that was assisted by senior Hannah Bourgault.
Even though the Bearcats put up a tough fight, the Knights sadly put another ball in the back of the net towards the end of the second half, which ultimately made the final score 1-3.
The Women’s Varsity Soccer team will play their second league game away in Arroyo Grande on Friday January 10 at 6pm. This also seems to be a good match up, as the Arroyo Grande Eagles currently have a record of 5-4-1.
