A Race to the Top

Here are just three candidates for valedictorian of the graduating class of 2025. The first runner for valedictorian is Ava Friedling. According to Friedling’s gradebook on Aeries portal, she is ranked first in the class. She is involved in varsity volleyball, varsity beach volleyball, works at the Paso Robles Steakhouse, is vice president of Friday Night Live Club, and president of HOSA club.

“Being valedictorian was never my goal, like oh that’d be cool but I was really focused on my goal to get the best grades I can,” Friedling said.

Ava has involved herself in seven AP classes to be more prepared for her future.

Some might be overwhelmed and stressed out, Friedling deals with stress by reminding herself  that it’s going to be worth it in the end and making to-do lists to stay organized.

After high school she plans to attend a four year college, and from there, get a biology and pre med degree. After getting these degrees, she plans to go to medical school to pursue a career as a dermatologist.

The second runner up for valedictorian is Hannah Bourgault. Outside of school she is involved in five extracurriculars including- varsity soccer, varsity Track and field, president of co-president of FCA, president of global environmental options club, secretary/social media manager of the wilderness club, and in FFA for 3 years. She used to work at the loading shoot in Creston as a host and busser, but isn’t working, just babysitting when she can.

“Not until junior year was I like, oh I’m top two. I could do that. So then I pushed myself to get a 5.0 junior year and have all AP and honors classes,” Bourgault said.

Has also focused on academic rigor to prepare for her future career.

In order to stay on top of these high level classes she likes to make a list of everything she has to do in a day, taking it one step at a time.

Post high school, Bourgault plans on going to a four year college to study environmental science or conservation in forestry.

After college she hopes to, “Hopefully hone in on forestry and fire science, and then look for a job to do hands on conservation work research or be part of Cal fire as a forester and work on prescribed burns,” Bourgault said.

Being part of the high school’s women varsity soccer program for four years, hopes to play soccer, depending on where she goes to college.

The third runner up for valedictorian is Adane Siegrist. He attended boys state last year as a junior, is involved in the high school boys varsity basketball team, varsity volleyball, is a coach special olympics basketball, link crew, beach club, junior class treasurer, earned the seal of biliteracy, and was treasurer of BSU his junior year.

“I wasn’t trying to be valedictorian, I was trying to be top 10 at least, so it looked good on my college and scholarship applications,” Siegrist said.

He has involved himself in many challenging classes like AP Spanish and AP calc to prepare him for college. At times when school becomes stressful, Siegrist goes outside to shoot.

After high school, Siegrist plans to attend a four year university to study business. He wants to enter into the aviation industry and work in logistics.

The valeditioran are not determined until the end of May, once finals are finished. The school admin figures out who has the highest GPA and will release who the valedictorian is in the final weeks of the school year.
