PRESIDENT HELICOPTER CRASH
May 19, President Ebraham Raisi of Iran dies in a helicopter crash in Iran near the border of Azerbaijan. The helicopter had eight people in total- and none survived. It is reported that the cause of the incident was because of poor climate conditions.
TRUMP SHOT
On July 13, 2024 the then former president, Donald Trump was touring the states during his 2024 presidential campaign when he was attacked in Butler county, Pennsylvania. Trump was shot in his right ear with an AR-15 style rifle, leaving the members of his rally scattering in fear, leaving two attendees injuring and one man dead.
PARIS OLYMPICS
The 2024 Olympics was held in Paris from July 26 to Aug 11, and the United States won 40 gold medals. Over 10,000 competed, representing 206 different countries from around the world.
HURRICANE HELENE
Hurricane Helene was a massive tropical cyclone which swept across the Southeastern United States, causing much destruction and many deaths. By September 24, it had become a tropical storm, and by 29 it was gone. The highest wind speed was around 140 mph.
MEXICO’S FIRST FEMALE PRESIDENT
On Oct 1, 2024, Claudia Sheinbaum Prado was inaugurated as Mexico’s first female president. The historic moment was also the first time a Jewish president of Mexico has been elected, with shouts of “Long live Claudia! Long live Mexico!” ringing through the crowd.
2024 ELECTION
Donald Trump was elected 47th President and JD Vance Vice President of the United States on Nov. 4, 2024. This sweeping win for the Republican party came from a 312 to 226 electoral vote final.
SOUTH KOREA’S MARTIAL LAW
On December 3, 2024 the South South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law at 10:30 p.m. and was lifted the next day at 2:30 a.m. After the national assembly voted to recommend its lifting to the president. This was the first time in 40 years South Korea declared martial law in an emergency.
CEO SHOOTING
On Dec 5th, CEO Brian Thompson of UnitedHealth was shot dead in Midtown Manhattan. He had been critiqued in the past for the company’s continual denial of insurance claims, and the suspect was Luigi Mangione. On ejected cartridge cases, the words “Delay”, “Deny”, “Depose” were written. Additionally, monopoly money was found in Luigi’s backpack which was discovered by authorities.
AL-ASSAD COLLAPSED
After 11 years of civil war, the al-Assad regime collapsed on December 8, 2024 when armed rebels took the Syrian city of Damascus. This event forced the long-time ruler al-Assad to flee the country. Now Syrian refugees are able to enter the country they left years ago. There has been a reported 200,000 refugees returning to Syria since the fall of the al-Assad regime according to UNHCR.org.
