Gerald Jackson
Hello everyone, welcome to the Crimson news magazine Podcast. Today, we're interviewing a student named Maddox Jimenez, about his hot takes during the holidays. We thought that since the holiday season was coming up pretty soon, why not share a student's hot takes about the holidays? Feel free to listen and enjoy.
Maddox Jimenez
"I’m Maddox Jimenez, a sophomore."
Gerald Jackson
"Okay, and could you tell me a couple of your hot takes you have about the winter holidays?"
Maddox Jimenez
"All right, for winter holidays, Christmas? If you don't like Halloween, then you should like Christmas even less, from a religious perspective, because you see, Halloween was made to ward off the evil spirits. It was a Christian holiday originally, but then December 25 was originally Roman pagan holiday Saturnalia, which was get drunk and give people presents. Then the Christians were like, 'Hey, no, you guys, can you guys, can keep celebrating that. Tone down the drinking.' And it's not to worship Saturn, but the birth of our lord. So, yeah, it's just, it's Christmas is just a reskinned pagan holiday. Meanwhile, Halloween is a Christian holiday. So if you are religious and you think Halloween is demonic or unholy at all, then you should think Christmas is even more so."
Gerald Jackson
"And then do you have any other hot takes about the holidays? You can have multiple."
Maddox Jimenez
"I think, Thanksgiving; they should really acknowledge the fact that the natives thought the Pilgrims made friends with, that friendship did not last long. The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is really cool, and then I think the rest of Thanksgiving is just overly commercialized. It's more so than Christmas. I'd say Thanksgiving is supposed to be about being grateful for what you have, being with family. But you know, it's just not like that anymore. It's just eating. It's just having a big feast. That's the primary point of it now."
Gerald Jackson
"And then, do you have anything about New Year's Eve or New Year's in general? Any hot takes about that?"
Maddox Jimenez
"No, I think New Year's is fine as it is. Celebrates a New Year."
Gerald Jackson
"And then back to Christmas. What led you to those hot takes about it?"
Maddox Jimenez
"I went to St Rose: Catholic school. They taught us. They told us that certain Christian holidays were originally pagan ones. They really glanced up– They did not talk at all about that Christmas was one. But I knew that that it was. And I, I think it shouldn't be glossed over like that I think it should be acknowledged more."
Gerald Jackson
"Got it. Alright, Thank you for the interview."
Gerald Jackson
"Thank you all for listening to the podcast. I'm Gerald Jackson from Crimson Newsmagazine, Happy holidays"
