On April 8th- 9th , sophomore Petyon Bedroian competed with pole vaulters from California and received a second place award in her division for the Arcadia Invitational and Mt. Sac competitions.
Arcadia Invitational is a national competition that includes U.S. high school students and internationals. It is the most competitive meet in the United States and the minimum requirement for the pole vault was a 10-09.00.
“I was jumping with some of the best pole vaulters in California, so I was pretty nervous during the meet, but also very excited to participate!” Bedrosian said.
Bedrosian stated that she trains all year for her sport everyday after school. Speed and upper body strength are very important components of pole vaulting which is why she trains to improve her technique.
“ I have a lot of great people, especially my coaches and teammates supporting me throughout this season,” Bedrosian said.
Although her sport is very competitive, Bedrosian enjoys the unity that it brings when students are rooting for others since they often compete with the same opponents.
“This sport helped me because it has allowed me to meet people from all over the country”
