The Paso Robles Bearcats varsity football team narrowly lost to the St. Joseph Knights 20-21 in an away game on Friday, October 18.
The Knights opened up the scoring in the first two minutes of the game with a 19-yd rushing touchdown. St. Joseph scored another touchdown with 4 minutes remaining in the second quarter. Just before halftime, the Bearcats put seven points on the board with senior RB Gerald Norte’s 1-yd rushing touchdown. The 3rd quarter went mostly scoreless until the Knights scored on a 5-yd rushing touchdown with seconds remaining, bringing the score to 7-21.
Former Bearcat and St. Joseph QB Hunter Barnhart threw an interception to senior Crisostomo Magalona III late in the 4th quarter, which was returned 85 yds for a touchdown. After the TD, Paso Robles recovered an onside kick, giving them the ball with 2 minutes remaining in the game. Norte scored again with seconds left on the clock with a 1-yd rushing touchdown, bringing the score to 20-21. The Bearcats failed to score on their 2-pt conversion attempt, and the Knights won 20-21.
