PRHS clubs show off their skills for the incoming freshmen
On Friday, January 25, PRHS held a club expo in the quad for the incoming freshmen from nearby middle schools. The expo showcased all of the clubs and organizations on campus, inviting everyone throughout the day at school to check out what the had to offer. Each club designed its own table with its own unique layout that displayed the best parts of their efforts and group.
“It’s just a really cool chance to showcase our club and what we do,” explains sophomore and FFA member Grace Anderson as she mans her booth at the expo with a smile on her face. “We get to show people what they don’t know about us.”
The expo also offered some very special opportunities for people. Mason Brown, a student in the engineering program, details how they set up a virtual reality system for people to try out as a way to show off some of the skills learned in the program, as well as being thrilling experience.
“There’s a game called the plank which is basically a simulation of you going onto a really high elevator and then it opens up on a plank with a city landscape where you have to walk off,” said Brown after assistant principal Anthony Overton cautiously finished his virtual reality encounter. Brown continued to explain how the whole thing can seem quite daunting to many. “With the loud music and the wind blowing on people with big fans, it gets pretty realistic.”
The club expo opened up many opportunities for current and incoming students alike, encouraging and giving them all a chance to take risks while proving that there’s always others who will take them with you.
