On March 14, after a second period assembly on culturing positivism and anti-bullying sentiments, various student-led clubs gathered under the awning during nutrition in honor of the 17 victims of the Feb 14 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida. During the symbolic 17 minute time frame, students were encouraged by their peers to engage in honoring those victims, contemplating the causes and effects of gun violence, and becoming involved in finding a solution, particularly through voting registration. This event was an alternative to the physical “walking out” of students off campus for the nationwide “Walk Out” movement occurring at the same time.
