Two Bearcats continue their athleteic carees
Among full-time college students enrolled at a four-year college, only .3% students get enough scholarships and grants to cover the whole cost of college according to CBS. In order to achieve this rare accomplishment, any student athlete must put in hours of work and dedication.
NATALYA MARCOVE
Senior Natalya Marcove steps onto the green 100 by 60 rectangle where she makes her way to her second home, the goal. This 24 by 8 home for Marcove is the place that she looks forward walking onto everyday. Her ability to jump 8ft over the top of her home is one of the many reasons that Marcove received a full ride scholarship to be a goalkeeper in Campbell University’s division two soccer program in North Carolina.
Campbell, in North Carolina, offers a full-ride scholarship to the goalkeeper, who has played varsity soccer all four years of high school, the summer before her junior year and she accepts a couple months later. Marcove had been interested in other colleges, but after receiving this offer she knew it was the place for her.
“This was the right fit, I wanted this school,” said Marcove, about her future college which has 6,182 students on campus.
After the next four years in North Carolina, Marcove hopes to gain more skills and become more consistent. She feels that over the past four years she has been focusing on improving her consistency, and it has payed off.
Marcove eventually hopes to play professionally, but for now she is focused on her journey for the next four years at Campbell. She hopes to reach the next level of soccer and even travel the world to find it.
ASHLEY DAVIS
It all started with the 7th grade Flamson Middle School 5K when she won the race. Now she is here. Senior Ashley Davis received a partial scholarship to California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo to run cross-country and track for the Division 1 program.
Davis feels as her strength in her passion for running and her discipline and work ethic when it comes to training is what makes her stand out than other runners.
Only as a freshman, Davis has managed to be the Bearcat cross country team’s MVP and again as a sophomore. She has ran in the cross country State meet as an individual runner 3 times .
Davis has been running for all four year in her high school career for both varsity cross country and track. She recently broke the school record in the 1600 meter, or one mile, crushing alumni Maddy Cline’s record of 5:02:17 with Davis’s new record of 5:02:09. Davis has been the cross country school and league champion in the 1600 meter and 800 meter.
“………..”
“I’m very excited to have the opportunity to run the elite Division 1 program” Davis said.
Davis plans on studying Kinesiology with an ultimate goal of becoming a physician’s assistant in the orthopedics or emergency medicine.
