Ten SkillsUSA participants led by welding teacher Justin Pickard brought home two gold, four silver, and four bronze medals from the April 2 competition in El Cajon, CA. They competed in welding sculpture, fabrication, CPS manufacturing, shielding metal arch welding, and TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas).
“This is the first year we’ve taken a good size group of welders down and had every single welder earn a medal,” Pickard said. “It was an exciting thing to happen to us this year.”
Gold medal winners Nick Cummings and Shane Terra will move on to the national competition in Louisville, Ky June 20-24, 2016.
